
Under the dynamic and tenacious leadership of Grace Mays Beckett, the Gamma Eta Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered October 8, 1946.
The first officers of the Gamma Eta Sigma Chapter were: President - Grace Mays Beckett; Vice President - Hazel Yates Gray; Recording Secretary - Mai Alice Norwood; Sergeant -at-Arms - Alverta Nevels Morris; Treasurer - Mary Elizabeth Carnegie; Parliamentarian - Glovenia Carter Baker; Corresponding Secretary - Lollie Fleming; Journalist - Gladys Peppers Anderson; and Custodian - Irene Anderson DeCoursey.
The first five persons initiated: Barbara Baker Boardly, Amierque C. Briggs, Willie Mae Miles, Willie B. Stewart , and Genevieve J. Wheeler (Thomas).
In November 1958, Gamma Eta Sigma Chapter was renamed Tallahassee Alumnae Chapter as amended by the Constitution and Bylaws at the 25th National Convention held in Washington D.C., August 1958. The term "graduate" chapter became obsolete and "alumnae" was used in its place.
